The United States and Ethiopia established diplomatic relations in 1903 when King Menelik II of Ethiopia and U.S. representative Robert P. Skinner signed an agreement.
In 2014, the United States Foreign Commercial Service Department officially opened in the United States Embassy in Addis Ababa and is now the US government's primary export trade agency.
It assists US firms who want to conduct business in Ethiopia by guiding them through the government contract process, promoting market access and transparency and determining the critical prerequisites for building new offices or investing in new projects.
