SIAAP washes the water of nearly 9 million Ile-de-France residents.It transports and cleans up the wastewater , rainwater and industrial water of the Paris agglomeration every day .

In 1965, the Paris region was organized into 8 departments: Paris (75), Seine-et-Marne (77), Yvelines (78), Essonne (91), Hauts-de-Seine (92) , Seine-Saint-Denis (93), Val-de-Marne (94) and Val-d'Oise (95).
In 1970, the 4 departments of the inner suburbs (Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne) created the Interdepartmental Syndicate for Sanitation of the Parisian Agglomeration (SIAAP) to ensure together, under the best conditions of efficiency and cost, the transport and depollution of theirwaste.
Subsequently, 180 municipalities in the departments of Val-d'Oise, Essonne, Yvelines and Seine-et-Marne, grouped together in syndicates, gave SIAAP the task of transporting and cleaning upwasteproduced in their territory.
