Description
As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), the Maldives faces many unique challenges. The development needs of SIDS, as articulated by the Sustainable Development Goals, will require massive investment in infrastructure. UNOPS is committed to helping SIDS fight challenges brought on by climate change and to ensuring countries, like the Maldives, reach their development goals.
Currently, UNOPS provides infrastructure support to enhance water security and climate resiliency across the country. This includes developing climate-resilient infrastructure, management of ground and freshwater resources, coastal protection, wastewater management, and the development of effective drainage systems and low-carbon energy strategies.
