Beriu Commune (Romania)

The commune of Beriu is located in the eastern part of Hunedoara county, in the area of Orăștiei, encompassing within its limits varied forms of relief, from high mountains to low terraces and even plains along the two rivers that cross the commune. Beriu commune is located at a distance of 7km. from the municipality of Orăştie, 34km. de Deva, the county seat and 1 lkm. by Costesti.
Beriu commune is located in the northern part of the Godeanu massif, including a large area of mountainous terrain in its administrative area.
The administrative territory of Beriu commune is bordered in the north-east by the municipality of Orăştie, in the south-east by Orăştiora de Sus and the commune Mărtineşti, and in the south-west by the commune of Romos and Alba County.
The administrative area of the commune is 18,479ha, with a population of 3,612 inhabitants and a density of 20 inhabitants/km.
The administrative territory of the commune is made up of 8 villages, namely: Beriu the center of the commune, Căstău, Cucuiş, Măgureni, Orăştiora de Jos, Poieni, Sereca and Sibişel.
The relief of the territory is divided into two areas, a plain in the north-eastern part and a hill in the south-eastern part. The hilly relief predominates, 64% of the commune's surface is covered by forest. while pastures and hayfields represent 21% of the commune's territory. The arable surface is small, representing only 11% of the administrative territory.
