The Parliament of Malawi is the supreme legislative body in Malawi. It is composed of Members of Parliament that are elected directly in single member constituencies. Currently the Parliament of Malawi is composed of 193 Members representing the 193 constituencies. The term of a Parliament is 5 years. The last elections were held in May, 2014. By-elections can take place whenever a seat becomes vacant.
The Speaker is the head of the National Assembly and is elected by all the Members on the first Sitting after a General Election. The current Speaker is Rt. Honorable Richard Msowoya, MP. Parliament Building is situated in the Capital City, Lilongwe along the Presidential Way; a few meters from the Kamuzu Mausoleum.
