The Ministry of Transport of Romania (MT) is the national public authority in Romania which establishes the national policy in the field of transportation, the strategy and the specific regulations for the harmonisation and development of transport activities in the framework of the general policy of the Romanian Government. MT fulfils the role of state authority in the field of transportation and transport infrastructure. The Government Decision no. 21/2015, with further completions and modifications, regulates the organisation and the functioning of the MT. According to the Government Ordinance no. 22/1999 regarding the administration of ports and inland waterways, the use of the naval transport infrastructure belonging to the public domains as well as theunfold of the naval transport activities in ports and inland waterways, MT is the state authority for the naval transport, which elaborates and coordinates the policy and the development of the naval transport system in Romania. As a regulating authority,MT elaborates and promotes the legislation and specific rules for the safety of navigation, the administration, use and concession of naval transport infrastructure, unfold of the naval transport activities in Romanian ports and on the Romanian inland waterway and ensure the fulfilment of the obligations deriving from the agreements and international conventions to which Romania is a party. MT is the Romanian coordinator of PA 1a –inland waterwaysof the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region.
