Save the Children (Sierra Leone)

Save the Children has been in Sierra Leone since 1999. We started working in Kailahun towards the end of the civil war supporting displaced children by uniting them with their families. Since then we have expanded our operations to four more districts; Pujehun, Western Area Urban, Western Area Rural and more recently Moyamba district.

Our programmes include:

· Health- working to reduce infant and maternal mortality through support and capacity building to health facilities in deprived and hard to reach communities;

· Education- building, renovating schools in hard to reach communities and providing vulnerable children material support to learn, as well as training teachers and providing support to families to keep children in remote communities learning.

· Protection- addressing harmful practices impacting the girl child such as child marriage and gender-based violence. We work with child brides and child mothers giving them the resources they need (education, skills training, counselling support, capacity building for advocacy) for empowerment.

We work with government and decision makers advocating for enabling policy frameworks for child rights; we partner with local and international civil society organizations, academic institutions and collaborate with child-led and child rights groups and networks to fulfill our ambition for children; to ensure that all children are given the best possible chance through health, education, protection and participation to reach their full potential.
