Public Works Department, Puducherry

Public Works Department, the premier technical organization in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, is in-charge of Planning, Designing, Construction and Maintenance of Buildings, Roads, Bridges, National Highways, Irrigation, Flood Control, Water Supply and Public Health Engineering in all the four regions namely, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The Department is also responsible for maintaining essential services like Water Supply, Sewerage, Management of Water Resources etc.

MISSION / VISION:

• To provide buildings for all the Government Offices, School, Colleges, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Sports and Recreation centers, non-residential buildings and residential quarters.
• To construct roads and bridges to meet the needs of ever growing traffic in urban and rural areas.
• To improve the riding quality and standards of the roads in urban and rural areas in the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
• To supply safe and clean water in adequate quantity to each and every household in the entire Union Territory of Pondicherry.
• To provide sewerage facilities for sanitation to improve the personal hygienic and living conditions of the general public in the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
• To provide surface drainage and flood control facilities.
• To develop and protect the coast and to prevent the coastal erosion by providing coastal protection wall.
• To maintain the infrastructure of the French City in harmony with French Architecture with special emphasis to attract tourists.
• To maintain and improve all the irrigation tanks and canals for accelerating the ground water recharging to sustain ground water potential.
