BLGF aims to improve the quality of local government finance through the following:
Assist in the formulation and issuance of sound policies on local taxation, revenue administration and public financial management;
Conduct effective supervision of and extensive coordination with local treasury and assessment offices;
Render timely and efficient assistance to the Secretary of Finance in the processing of appointments, designations, and personnel action of all local treasurers and assistant treasurers;
Develop, implement and timely monitor relevant plans and programs on resource management system, collection enforcement and credit financing; and
Provide appropriate consultative services and technical assistance on local taxation, real property assessment and other related matters.
