The Ministry of Transportation (MOT) is part of the Cabinet of Egypt whose main responsibilities are to meet the transportation needs of the country and to ensure the development of this while at the same time conforming with Egyptian development plans.
MOT, in affiliation with numerous organisations such as the General Authority for planning transportation projects, the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport and certain Port Authorities, aspires to modernize and develop the existing transport network in order to provide greater comfort and safety as well as to facilitate both national and international commerce.
On land, the Ministry seeks to create a mass transit system that would provide a better connection between the provinces. Aside from infrastructure, MOT aspires to provide a competitive service in the transport of passengers and goods and to achieve this it will modernize the fleet of tractors and wagons by importing vehicles from abroad and invest in better maintenance of the railways to achieve a high standard of speed and security.
In terms of maritime transport, MOT’s long-term aim is to expand Egypt’s economical influence by increasing its capacity to export and import goods which will require new maritime and river ports to be built in order to facilitate trade both internally and externally.
The long-term goals are to activate and expand Egyptian ports to increase the capacity available for exported and imported goods and passenger transfers and to create new ports and develop the Egyptian Maritime Fleet. The objective is to build on the advantage of Egypt's geographical location to connect transportation between East and West, North and South.
