International Republican Institute (IRI) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization based in the United States that is committed to advancing freedom and democracy around the world by assisting political parties to become more issue-based and responsive, assisting citizens to participate in government planning and working to increase the role of marginalized groups, including women and youth, in the political process.
It strengthens citizens’ voices and helps to make their leaders more accountable and responsive as well as helping women and youth to be heard. IRI keeps the electorate and the government in touch with each other and raises voter awareness. IRI staff can promptly adjust programs to suit the demands of changing circumstances as the areas of competence include customizing solutions to meet the specific requirements of individuals, informing citizens and politicians about the democratic process, and encouraging open dialogue.
The main activities of the organization are based on six themes: linking political parties and people, building citizen-centered governments, amplifying marginalized voices, ensuring elections count, and putting data to work. The IRI acts as a political organization in other countries, supplying training and support to preferred political parties although it has little influence on domestic politics in the United States.
