The Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia established a National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by the President of the FGS, and the Prime Minister as alternate together with the Presidents of Federal Member States, the economic sub-committee of Cabinet of the FGS, the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, and five (5) national economic Experts. Also, the national economic experts and four (4) international counterparts will form a national Economic Advisers (NEA) to support the NEC in conducting evidence-based research on economic and social issues of concern to the nation The NEA and an Economic Analysis Unit (EPAU) will form the technical arm and Secretariat of the NEC and support the organization and delivery of its periodic meeting. The NEC is established for a term of four years that could be renewed by the President on the recommendation of the Cabinet.
