Description

With the creation of the European External Action Service (EEAS) by the Lisbon Treaty that entered into force on December 1, 2009, the European Union has promoted a more coherent and effective foreign policy to achieve greater influence beyond its borders.

Thus, the Delegation of the European Union in Cuba - one of the more than 140 delegations that the organization has in the world - functions as a diplomatic mission similar to any other accredited embassy in the country and performs the following functions:

  • represent the European Union in Cuba;

  • to permanently chair the group of member states;

  • defend the position of the European Union in various areas;

  • identify, plan and execute development cooperation programs in Cuba;

  • inform the relevant sectors of Cuban society about the activities and actions of the European Union;

  • participate in the preparation and negotiation of the agreements between Cuba and the European Union;
  • ensure the follow-up of all signed agreements.
