National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB), erstwhile Cement Research Institute (CRI) was established on 24 December 1962 with the objective of promoting research and scientific work connected with cement and building materials trade and industry.
Today, the NCB is the principal body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Government of India, for technology development, transfer, continuing education and industrial services for the cement and construction industries. Geographically, NCB has its corporate center and core laboratories located at Ballabhgarh (near New Delhi); Another well established regional center in Hyderabad and one center at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Bhubaneshwar.
NCB's scope of work across the entire spectrum of cement manufacturing and uses - starting from geological exploration of raw materials for actual construction, condition monitoring and end use of materials through processes, machinery, manufacturing aspects, energy and environmental considerations. Rehabilitation of buildings and structures.
NCB acts as the nodal agency for providing necessary assistance to the Government for formulation of its policy and planning activities relating to the growth and development of the cement industry. It is dedicated to protect the interest of the consumers of cement and concrete in the country. The stakeholders of NCB are government, industry and society, who see the role of NCB as discharging national responsibility, providing adequate technology support and improving the quality of life.
