The Public Foundation Mountain Societies Development Support Programme (PF MSDSP KG) implements an area-based development programme designed to improve rural livelihoods in the Kyrgyz Republic. It is currently active in Osh and Naryn regions and is working in the areas of health, education and agriculture. PF MSDSP KG is an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).
The PF MSDSP KG engages communities in formulating, guiding and implementing projects which create opportunities for increased income, stimulate civil society activities and improve community access to quality education, health and agriculture. Such activities help communities to take ownership in the decisions and processes which improve their livelihoods over the long term.
Interventions begin at the grassroots level with communities in regions which have become geographically and economically marginalized and face the greatest risk of continued hardship. PF MSDSP KG began its work in 2003 in the regions of Alai and Chongalai and in 2007 expanded into Naryn. It is currently working to introduce modern farming techniques, conducting research to further improve methods for teaching young children, reinforcing public health efforts, spurring economic potential and continuing the effort to engage communities in civil society activities.
