Community Development Fund (KCDF)

The Community Development Fund (CDF) commenced its activities in November 1999, when it was established in partnership with the Soros Foundation/Open Society Institute. Later, on 8 October 2000, the CDF was registered as a local, non-profit NGO with Public Benefit Status to carry out a community development project through small-scale community investments, under a World Bank project.

The CDF has its own Board of Directors composed of five prominent members of Kosova society selected on the basis of their professional expertise and their understanding of social problems in Kosova. The CDF actually has 40 staff members of whom 35 are professional staff.

The Community Development Fund Project was the first operation financed by the World Bank in Kosovo in 1999 – and primarily had two main objectives:

1. To provide rapid, targeted support to assist communities rebuild their shattered infrastructure and improve community services; and

2. To support the development of local governments to allow them to serve their communities in a transparent, fair, and accountable manner.
