Court of Justice of the State of Minas Gerais

The Minas Gerais Court of Justice is the highest court of Minas Gerais and is headquartered in Belo Horizonte and has jurisdiction over the entire territory of Minas Gerais. As it is an organ of the state justice, its function is to judge cases that do not fall within the competence of the common federal, labor, electoral and military justice.

When a judge of first instance renders a judgment and one of the parties does not agree with the decision, appeals in the second instance are available. In this case, the trial is carried out again by a collegiate of judges of the State Court of Justice. This decision, taken by votes of the judges, is called a judgment and may or may not uphold the first sentence.
