The independent advocacy was established in accordance with Act SNR no. 132/1990 Coll. on advocacy with effect from July 1, 1990. The Slovak Bar Association is an independent, self-governing state organization, bringing together more than 5,600 attorneys and 2,500 attorney trainees . Advocacy helps implement the constitutional right of citizens to defense and protect other rights and interests of citizens and legal entities in accordance with the Constitution of the Slovak Republic and laws. Lawyers fulfill the tasks of advocacy mainly by defending citizens in criminal proceedings, representing citizens and legal entities before courts, state authorities and other legal entities, writing documents, providing legal advice and processing legal analyses.
