The Ministry of Livestock was founded as a body in 1902. It changed its name to the Veterinary Authority in November 1911 and was successfully operated by several directors from various military positions until 1955.
Before declaring independence on June 30, 1955, it was Sudanized as the Animal Production Authority, with Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil serving as its first Sudanese director.
Following Sudan's declaration of independence, it was known as the Ministry of Livestock until 1971 and the Ministry of Animal Production until 1972.
After incorporating the Ministry of Agriculture, it later changed its name to the Ministry of Natural Resources. In 1989 AD, it returned to being the Ministry of Agriculture, and since 1996, its current official name has been the Ministry of Livestock.
