CRRAE-UMOA
was created on July 1 , 1979 by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), under the name "Retirement Fund by Distribution of BCEAO Supervisory Agents (CRRAE- BCEAO)”, with the mission of organizing and managing the retirement of Central Bank supervisory staff.
The CRRAE – BCEAO was opened in January 1985 at the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and took the name CRRAE – UMOA which designates both the Pension Scheme and the Institution in charge of its management. This opening also enshrines the administrative and financial autonomy of the Caisse, which nevertheless remains under the supervision of the Governor of the BCEAO. During the same year, the Fund was opened to banks and financial establishments of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU), as well as to African multinational institutions of which the WAMU States are members and having their head office in one of these states.
In February 2006 , CRRAE-UMOA began a new phase in its transformation. Indeed, the institutional reform carried out on this occasion made it possible to adapt the organization, administration and management of the Fund to the evolution of its activities and its environment. In addition, the Institution took the name: Retirement Fund by Distribution With Savings of UMOA while retaining the acronym CRRAE-UMOA.
On May 8, 2008 , the Caisse signed a headquarters agreement with the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, thus becoming an international public body.
