Following the presidential elections at the end of 2015, Niouga Ambroise Ouedraogo was appointed Minister of Water and Sanitation. The new organization of the Ministry of Water and Sanitation (MEA) is governed by Decree No. 2016-342/PRES/PM/MEA of May 4, 2016. According to the provisions of this decree, the MEA now comprises 5 general directorates, central structures which carry out their missions under the direct control of the General Secretariat:
- The General Directorate of Studies and Sector Statistics (DGESS)
- The General Directorate of Sanitation (DGA)
- The General Directorate for Drinking Water (DGEP)
- The General Directorate of Hydraulic Infrastructure (DGIH)
- The General Directorate of Water Resources (DGRE)
The DGIH is headed by a Director/Director General appointed by decree issued by the Council of Ministers. It includes the following directions:
the Department of Studies and Works (DET); the Hydraulic Works Maintenance Operations Department (DMOH). The organization and operation of the DGIH are determined by an order of the Minister.
