The human configuration of the current Campolide is largely the result of the many people that were needed for the construction works of the monumental Aqueduct of Águas Livres. Hence, since the 18th century, two urban areas have been distinguished in the parish, one initially for the “masters”, with better housing conditions, and another for the “workers”, improvised and sown with tents.
The road and urban transformations of the last few decades have significantly altered the condition of the latter, without, however, taking away the character of the old Campolide site, whose history and traditions deserve to be better known and revalued. And if the problems derived from the old social stratification have been somewhat attenuated, their marks and memories persist in everyday life and in the social reality of the Campolide community.
