The Daugavpils City Education Board (hereinafter - DPIP) is the budget institution of the Daugavpils State City Municipality (hereinafter - the municipality), which implements the competence of the municipality in the field of education policy.
Municipal general education, interest education and professional education institutions (25 institutions in total) are subordinated to DPIP. There are 10 preschool educational institutions and 13 general education schools operating in Daugavpils , 7 of which also implement preschool education programs. Children and young people have wide access to education of various interests both in general educational institutions and by visiting the "Jaunība" Children and Youth Center of the city of Daugavpils . The Art Education Competence Center "Daugavpils Design and Art High School "Saules Skola"" operates under DPIP . DPIP also supervises professional sports education institutions established by the council.
The DPIP performs the following functions:
ensures preschool, primary and secondary education for children and young people living in the territory of the municipality; organizes the availability of professional, interest-based education and lifelong learning;
ensures the operation of the Inclusive Education Support Center and the operation of the municipal pedagogical medical commission;
develops, coordinates and implements municipal strategic and policy planning documents in the field of education;
ensures effective financial management, maintenance of the material base of subordinate educational institutions and support in the field of information technology, etc
DPIP also performs the following tasks:
analyzes and monitors the operation of educational institutions, the quality of the educational process, develops proposals for improving the work of educational institutions, provides methodological assistance, evaluates the professional performance of educational institution managers;
ensures the protection of children's rights in the field of education; organizes national subject Olympiads, scientific readings, conferences, competitions, shows and other events in the field of education;
coordinates professional competence development programs for pedagogues;
organizes purchases, concludes procurement contracts and performs other activities.
DPIP cooperates with state, local government institutions, employers' organizations and representative offices of other countries in the fields of education and youth affairs, as well as in matters affecting children and families.
