Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Bulgaria)
The Republic of Bulgaria has an active, consistent and targeted policy for peace, stability, security, human rights, democracy and prosperity regionally and globally. Bulgaria is a reliable and predictable ally in the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the UN and other international governmental organisations. It is also a reputable partner in bilateral international relations. The Ministry is an effective and efficient creator of foreign policy of the government and a co-ordinator of its policies within the European Union (hereinafter "European policy"). The Ministry is an active, competent and reliable source of information, analysis, evaluations and proposals for the Government and for other public authorities, businesses, NGOs and citizens in the country and its foreign partners.
SOFIA - Bulgaria and the Netherlands unite around the idea of a strong and solid European Union with a more active foreign policy. This was emphasized by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva after her meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Stef Blok, who is on our first visit to 110 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations .
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall lead, coordinate and supervise the implementation of the state policy of the Republic of Bulgaria in its relations with other countries, ensuring the maintenance and development of foreign policy dialogue, security policy and bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation. Carries out general coordination in the field of foreign policy and international activity of the Republic of Bulgaria.
It cooperates with the higher state authorities in exercising their powers in the field of foreign policy and international activity, coordinates and participates in the preparation and holding of the visits of state and government delegations at the highest and highest level in the Republic of Bulgaria and abroad;
Maintains and develops the diplomatic and consular relations of the Republic of Bulgaria with other countries, as well as relations with foreign representations accredited in the Republic of Bulgaria and missions of international organizations and controls the fulfillment of the international legal obligations of the Republic of Bulgaria to them as a host country.
Coordinates the international co-operation carried out by the other ministers and heads of departments, coordinates and participates in the preparation, conclusion and implementation of the international treaties of the Republic of Bulgaria;
Protects the rights and interests of the Bulgarian state and of Bulgarian citizens and legal entities abroad within the framework of the international legal norms and the established practice, undertakes diplomatic actions for preservation of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage and monuments abroad.
