For MANRE - Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment sustainable management of Cyprus' natural resources is a crucial issue, as Cyprus is a small island whose 36.2% of the area is still illegally occupied by Turkey after its military intervention in 1974.
Against this background, the agricultural and rural areas that make up the distinctive character of the Cypriot landscape, forests that currently cover about 20% of the island, and other natural areas and aquatic ecosystems, should be preserved and made sustainable. The Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment assumes this tremendous responsibility, promoting through integrated coordination, the protection and sustainable management of the environment, natural resources, as well as the sustainable management of agricultural, livestock and fishery production. We therefore work with a great sense of responsibility to ensure a better quality of life for present and future generations of Cypriots.
