- Degrees in business & commercial economics and in business science (MScBA). Additional qualifications from London School of Economics (Development Economics), Darden Business School Virginia, US, and M.I.T. Boston (Strategic Management), US, in addition to management trainee programme ABN AMRO and ING Barings;
- Marc has very intense capital markets experience from 3 years supporting issues on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, including bond issues by EIB, IADB and FMO (1990-1993).
- Marc established ING Barings Power Finance Department with two colleagues in 1995 through underwriting IFC B-loan programs, followed by transactions benefitting from other credit enhancement mechanisms such as MIGA (Marc realised first and last IFC-B+MIGA transaction), ECA’s and other providers of political and / or comprehensive insurance.
- Independent financial modelling and model audits since 1995 with model being best practice at ING and at PwC worldwide. (1995-2004).
- Established controlled auctions practice at PwC as from 2000 and renewable energy worldwide.
- Bankability of developing countries infrastructure projects; active in energy-sector PPPs worldwide since 1995 with ING Barings, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Dutch developing bank and as expert for several UE-funded programs (SE4ALL, ElectriFI, RECP). Marc developed his own credit risk methodology for assets in emerging markets.
- (Renewable) energy finance Africa as from 2003 (initiated RE-focus at FMO), evaluations of renewable energy projects throughout Africa for credit purposes at FMO, including upon own initiative the impact by means of a graph of the impact of not using local currency funding on future tariffs. Initiated a one-stop-shop approach at FMO 2007 (equity through MDG fund and FMO lead arranger senior debt under master agreement with Aeolus Int).
- 2 years fund manager infrastructure fund LDCs.
- Support/grant-based development finance (ORET, INEA): M. Buiting has been working since 2003 on many (early stage) propositions at the edge of public and private sector implementation associated with all sorts of ‘venture capital’ propositions (including non-dividend earning equity propositions like Khartoum Water - see presentation at linked-in page).
- M. Buiting is independent ‘blending’ expert. EU-AITF Advisory Board member 2008-2013, screening proposals for (mostly) rural electrification Africa for blending by EU. Evaluating blending proposals for the EC under SE4ALL program 2013-2020 as NKE.
- Initiated and established ElectriFI (2013-2016) and was involved in the establishment of the Country Windows Ghana and Nigeria as well.
- Initiated and established RECP-Finance Facilitator, now GET.invest Finance Catalyst, and was contracted from 2016-2021.
- ‘Partner’ at Crowdpartners, alternative finance platform. Credit paper preparations. Solar farms and green gas propositions in the Netherlands.
- Consortium partner H2020 project 'Bioplat' next to FAO, Neste, etc, - bioenergies from marginal, underutilised and contamined lands in Europe supported by GIS-tool (2017-2020).
- Consortium partner H2020 project Hyposo, promotion of hydropower solutions from Europe in Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Cameroon and Uganda (2018-2020).
- Financial Readiness Expert for CINEA (Connecting Europe Facility, Innovation Fund); evaluation of blending proposals (as from 2017).
