About
Felisberto Afonso is a climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction specialist with more than 10 years’ experience working in the development sector with governmental, academic, and international organizations from Mozambique, southern Africa, and the United States. Currently Mr Afonso serves as project advisor for Disaster Risk Reduction Program implemented by Belgian Red Cross-Flanders to reduce the impact of climate risks, through strengthening resilience of communities living in high risk areas and building the institutional capacity of the Red Cross and other stakeholders to respond to disasters. Recently, Mr Afonso served as the Training and Capacity Building Specialist for the USAID’s Coastal Cities Adaptation Program (CCAP) leading training and capacity building component to increase understanding of climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) options for urban adaptation in Mozambique. Prior to CCAP, he served as Knowledge Management Specialist for the World Bank’s Climate Change Technical Assistant Project (CCTAP) where he successfully developed and implemented effective knowledge management system for the Strategic Program for Climate Resilience (SPCR) working in partnership with governmental, non-governmental, and academic institutions. Furthermore, he has large experience as Lecturer at Eduardo Mondlane University and other local Universities including consulting services under the CCA and DRR agenda commissioned by national and International partners. He holds MSc in Disaster Management from University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
