About
RESEARCHER and ASSESSMENT CONSULTANT
As an independent researcher, I work for myself and for various clients. I find relevant materials, prepare reports and presentations, manage files, and write articles. As a current example, I am co-researching and writing about the impact of interdisciplinary curriculum on student achievement. As a consultant for Paragon Testing Enterprises, I reviewed passages and items (questions) for content, technical quality, fairness, bias/sensitivity and appropriateness for their inclusion on the CAEL test. This test assesses language competency of students entering college and university. As a consultant for CExAC, I review the national credentialing exam taken by architect interns, train item writers, prepare reports and invigilate the exam.
EXPERIENCE WITH LARGE-SCALE ASSESSMENT
As an Education Officer with EQAO, I have been responsible for the following:
• Test development related to the OSSLT and the Primary and Junior assessments. This has included
- training reading selection writers (face-to-face and online)
- training item writers (test question developers (face-to-face and online)
- reviewing and revising selections and items, preparing them for production and entering them into an electronic bank.
• Test form construction based on a table of specifications (blueprint), data analysis of field test and operational items and comparability data.
• Developing scoring materials (rubrics, training scripts, scoring guides, qualification tests) and procedures (e.g., selection and use of anchor papers, validity papers, calibration papers).
• Training OSSLT scoring leaders, supervisors and scorers (face-to-face and online) and monitoring scorers 5 through reliability and validity data scorers.
• Contributing to documents related to revised literacy construct and test construct.
• Collaborating in the writing of publicly-released reporting documents (Provincial Report, Strategies for Educators, Curriculum Connections etc.)
• Coordinating province-wide EQAO OSSLT field trials of writing prompts including the development of prompts, recruitment of trial sites, administration of trials, scoring and analysis of data.
• Developing support materials for the field (e.g., practice tests, annotated samples of student work).
