Development Banking Expert

Mr. Teunissen has over 28 years of resident working experience in Asia as a commercial banking executive and development banking advisor. He has a dual-Masters Degree in Chinese Studies and Business Administration and has worked in client-facing leadership roles at banks in China, Singapore, Indonesia, Mongolia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. As a development banking expert, he has worked as technical advisor and executive manager in engagements by Multi-lateral Development Banks, developing private-sector financing initiatives with public sector banks.

Mr. Teunissen speaks fluent Chinese and his understanding of China’s performance driven business-culture explains his engagement with China-related business and his interest in Asia. He has worked as a diplomat and civil servant for the Dutch Government in China from 2015 to 2017. He facilitated ‘outbound investment’ from China to Europe, as the Executive Director for China of the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency based in Shanghai.

Mr. Teunissen gained his commercial banking skills at ING and Fortis Bank, working 15 years in both North and South-East Asia. He has developed relationships with both private and public-sector clients and is skilled in managing trade finance, investment loans and energy project finance. The central theme in his career is the financing of cross-border transactions which enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of his regional business-clients.

Mr. Teunissen has advised Asian banks on private sector initiatives, SME lending, Micro-Finance and bad-debt reduction. He has strengthened credit risk management by implementing international best practice and corporate governance standards. Mr Teunissen is skilled in project management, TA-coordination and he provides hands-on project implementation and TA workshops. He is familiar with environmental and social safeguards sought by Multi-lateral Development Banks and Aid Organizations.
