Tim Smith is an Environment and Water Resources Expert and qualified Hydrologist with over 25 years’ professional experience. This ranges from leading or supporting environmental impact assessments and due diligence projects to the development and implementation of environmental policies, plans and strategies and the preparation of investor guidelines (which includes EIB’s recent sustainable hydropower guidelines). His experience is worldwide, and includes working on behalf of the private sector, IFIs such as the World Bank, IFC, EIB, EBRD, EC, AfDB and ADB, and bilateral development agencies such as DFID and DEG (where Tim undertook a short-term secondment in 2018, and has provided ESDD advisory support since 2009 as part of an ERM framework contract).  Specialising in environmental and water resources management, Tim has gained a broad understanding of environmental and social issues and performance standards across a wide range of sectors, including renewables (hydropower, wind and solar), agriculture, infrastructure, mining and oil and gas. Before becoming a freelance consultant in September 2019 Tim was a Technical Director at ERM, where he worked from 1995, prior to which he worked for Mott MacDonald Ltd as a Water Resources Engineer from 1989 to 1995.
