About

I am an international development professional with over 22 years of progressive experience with international consultants, donor agencies, regional intergovernmental organizations and NGOs in the field of development finance, natural resources, climate change and poverty reduction in South Asia, China and Myanmar. My multi-level hands-on research and implementation experience have helped me develop an understanding of issues at the grassroots level, mid-implementation level in Government and non-government agencies and at the macro-level with the national governments and international organisations. In my current job as Programme Coordinator for adaptation and resilience building at ICIMOD, I try to ensure the reflection of ground realities in international scientific research for the better use of research and to develop evidence-based solutions and policies. At KfW I ensured that the design of the projects financed by KfW addressed the quality and upscaling challenges generally faced by such projects in India. My earlier job at EDA Rural Systems gave me an exposure to the economic, social, and cultural landscape of the entire country, and therefore, I try to develop programmes that are sustainable on their own and business-oriented. My first job at AKRSP(I) in the villages of Gujarat taught me the basics of development and sensitivity involved in such work. Therefore, I recognise the role of subsidies and grants in poverty reduction, but I also believe that it is crucial to adopt a business approach for sustainable solutions.
