Ed Walters recent work includes post-emergency livelihoods and market assessments with follow-on cash programming. He has conducted value chain and market analyses, seed system security assessments, and program evaluations. He has extensive experience in natural resource-based rural development in Africa and Latin America. In his over 20 years of experience, he has taken a holistic approach to community development focused on using participatory approaches. His work has examined the linkages in the various stages of rural livelihoods from post-emergency recovery, natural resource conservation and enhancement, sustainable agricultural production, to value added activities and marketing. He has managed large multimillion-dollar programs overseeing staff using a collaborative, team-building approach. He has led the development of various projects securing funding from organizations such as USAID, USDA, DFID, and Rotary International. He has designed and implemented appropriate, simple, and efficient participatory monitoring and evaluation systems, conducting baseline, intermediate, and final evaluations. He launched the agroenterprise approach in the CRS Madagascar program and introduced the Farmer Field School methodology. He has extensive experience in developing, implementing and evaluating sustainable agriculture programs in tropical hillside and dry land areas, with expertise in agroforestry systems, soil conservation, watershed management, water harvesting and conservation, and subsistence and cash crop production. He has designed training curriculums and facilitated a broad range of trainings and workshops. A native English speaker, he has lived and worked in countries requiring facility in French, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Tunisian Arabic.
