I have served as a Technical Consultant, Solid Waste Management – Municipal Infrastructure Support Agency (MISA) Free State province, of which my work focuses on infrastructure planning, implementation and specifically supporting in the review of Scoping/EIA reports and Engineering designs for sitting and construction of Landfill sites in Xhariep District Municipality. So far, I have revived, almost dead landfill construction activities and Scoping/EIA/Engineering designs ROD for Reddersburg Landfill site, Jaggersfontein Landfill site, Koffiefontein landfill site and the Zastron/Rouxville Landfill sites.
I have been a Senior Consultant - waste management catering waste audits and landfill EIA/designs reviews and operation for cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharia and Al Alain, including solid waste audits from hotels and some industries.
I also have served as A) a UNDP/GEF International Expert/Team Leader on Waste Sorting & Materials Recovery (Recycling & Composting) which entailed training Municipal and government officials AND Scavengers on Solid waste management and guided the EIA process and designing of recycling and composting plants, including siting of landfill sites in Onitsha and Kano in Nigeria; B) UNDP Rwanda : setting up of Solid Waste Management system and Landfill for the City of Kigali Rwanda; C) UNDP Maldives: Establishment of proper Solid Waste Management system in City of Male, Maldives; and D) European Union Somaliland: setting up of Solid Waste Management system and Landfill for the City of Hargeisa, Somaliland;
Prior to the above, I was a Chief Technical Advisor, Environment & Radioactive waste management in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) under UNDP/ENVSEC based in Bishkek, whose part of my key activities executed were: assisting in rehabilitation and siting of new radioactive waste disposal sites (Landfill sites)
I have also served as Director: Chemicals & Hazardous waste Management in government of South Africa where I had managed three Conventions: POPs, PIC and Basel, including SAICM issues - was key specialist for advising and monitoring the construction of new landfill sites such as the one at Pelindaba radioactive waste disposal site and the drafter of the Waste bill of South Africa;
I have served as a consultant for formulating the Waste Management Policy and Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP) for the City of Johannesburg in preparation for the 2010 Football World Cup;
I have served as a key consultant that formulated the Domestic Waste Collection Standards for South Africa and was part of the team that formulated the Free Basis Refuse Removal policy for DEAT, South Africa;
As a Manager: Environmental Strategy and Partnership for the City of Cape Town, I played a key role in formulating the Waste Strategy for the City and monitoring the operational performance of all the Landfills in Cape Town; and
Finally, I put it on record that I have been key champion supporting CoGTA on foster the implementation of Back to Basics activities/programmes in Free State Province as directed by the MISA Provincial Programme Manager (PPM).
