About
Dr. Marc Foggin is a conservation biologist specialised in mountain environments, with focus on human dimensions of environmental management and community development. He is an Honorary Research Associate in the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA), University of British Columbia (UBC). His work broadly revolves around fields of sustainability science, protected and conserved areas, indigenous peoples and local communities, governance, co-management, and horizontal policy analysis. He also is a member of research consortia focused on environmental and social dimensions of China’s Belt & Road Initiative, an honorary member of ICCA Consortium, and a member of several IUCN specialist working groups including the World Commission on Protected Areas' (WCPA) Mountains Specialist Group. Additionally, he leads the integrated development and conservation work of NGO Plateau Perspectives, mostly in Central Asia, and has served as consultant for UNDP and other organizations for the development of more people-centred and right-based approaches in nature conservation.
