Over 35 years' experience in progressively demanding and challenging positions in the initiation, appraisal, design, tender documentation and management of construction contracts for several urban and rural water supply and sanitation, and other infrastructure engineering projects in Kenya and Eastern Africa. I have worked with, managed and directed multidisciplinary project teams comprising engineers, environmentalists, sociologists, institutional experts and economists.

I have had valuable experience in providing technically appropriate, environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and cost effective engineering solutions to local community managed water supply and sanitation projects. I am well versed with both local and international contract procurement and management procedures, and have represented the Client as ‘Expert Witness’ during arbitration and litigation proceedings on projects.

Most of the previous experience has been gained through employment with an international consulting engineering firm, Howard Humphreys of UK at their regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and through project associations with international firms such as W S Atkins International of UK, Sinclair Knight Merz of New Zealand, Stewart Scott International and Ingerop (Africa) of South Africa, etc. Most of the projects undertaken were financed by international donors and funding agencies such as the World Bank, EU, AfDB, AFD, SFD, KfW, GTZ, etc.

Currently as an Independent Consultant, I have provided services as Technical Adviser, Design Reviewer and Evaluator on water supply and sanitation projects proposed by the various Water Services Providers (WSPs) in Kenya and seeking approvals from Donor Institutions, such as the World Bank, IFC, EU/EC, etc. I have also provided services as a Technical Specialist on various infrastructure/engineering projects in the Northern States of Sudan, financed under the National Sudan Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF-N) Programme and administered by the World Bank, and to the Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF) in Kenya for the Urban Project Concept (UPC) Program implemented under the Water Supply and Sanitation for the Urban Poor Program (WASSUPP), funded by KfW, European Union and GIZ through the Aid on Delivery (AOD) and Output Based Aid (OBA) financing concepts.
