Military background in the international environment, involvement in election observation with EU, OSCE, NGOs
MSc with Merit in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, UK
Specialities: Security and Risk Management (analysis, planning, implementing physical security measures). Logistics.
Having spent more than thirty years in the army as an officer, I have gathered extensive first-hand experience developing, coordinating, implementing, and overseeing security and safety-related policies supporting military and civilian personnel deployed in vast geographical areas. I have worked for international organizations in Africa and Asia. My involvement in the European Union’s election observation missions in Africa and Asia over the last fifteen years (Egypt, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Malawi, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Pakistan, Cambodia, Myanmar) gave me first – hand knowledge of political, social and economic situation, security trends and risks in these countries. The same applies in the Balkans, where I was involved with OSCE.
Enumerating my relative competencies, I can account for the following: In-depth knowledge of the operational security and safety risk management and emergency management issues in the field—the ability to apply UN rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines in work situations.
Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently to ensure that goals and deadlines are met.
I am a proponent of transformational leadership and openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives, ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all work areas, and creating the appropriate work culture for a positive contribution of all involved in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.
As an ex-senior army officer, I have extensive experience in management and managerial competencies such as leadership, decision-making, planning, organizing, controlling, coordinating, communicating, and motivating. My education in security studies (MSc in Security and Risk Management, MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies, Military Academy Degree), my attendance at the Army Command and Staff College and my education in humanities (BA in History) have deepened my knowledge and competence regarding tactical and strategic analysis, security and safety in demanding areas and contexts.
Notwithstanding my professional competencies enumerated above, I am a great supporter of the United Nations, its vision and core values which I feel are the central elements of my outlook on life and which have led me to choose the professional path I have followed so far.
