- Professional experience of more than two decades in rural (participatory) development planning and implementation, focus on micro and small enterprise (MSE), financing value chains, saving promotion, gender, economic empowerment (women youth) for alleviation of poverty and food in-security. ACSI works in one of the poorest and highly food in-secure regions in northern Ethiopia. Using the basic Grameen group guarantee lending model, customized to local realities, it managed to reach over 700,000 (2009) active poor credit clients working mainly on small scale farming, highly vulnerable to repeat food in-security, while achieving both operational and financial sustainability. It won a number of local and international awards. This includes those by the Grameen foundation, and the Microcredit Summit, as well as being selected as one of the top 50 MFIs globally (ranking the 6th) by the Forbes American Business magazine in 2007. … Specific activities performed include: strategic leadership, coordination and monitoring operation, market research on savings and credit, facilitating finance to agricultural and rural enterprises through diversifying existing financial products, new product development e.g leasing, loan guarantee schemes, especially Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) loan targeting unemployed young people graduating from colleges, including the EU-funded 7 cities MSME finance programme.
