About

Mr. Zakari Congo is an expert in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), research, data collection, data analysis and disseminating learning for use into the health system in Burkina Faso. He boasts nearly 20 years of experience implementing research on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, adolescent and youth health, family planning (FP), population analysis, and coordination of multi-site studies in Burkina Faso. In his previous role as an M&E Officer with EngenderHealth, Mr. Congo oversaw the management of systems that measure and document program progress for the USAID-funded AgirPF activity. He also led the learning agenda, ensuring that results were integrated into the health system decision management process, and strengthened the capacity of the government HMIS systems in Burkina, Mauritania and Côte d’Ivoire through staff training. In his current role as Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Director, he manages MEL staff in Ouaga and Bobo region and has trained more than 20 Ministry of Health district data managers and supervisors in data quality assessments and the use of DHIS2 for data analysis. Mr. Congo has a deep understanding of Burkina’s health system at all levels: community, district, and national, and has a proven record of improving data quality and reporting among health facilities and providers. Mr. Congo has developed and managed the implementation of Performance Management Plans using evidence-based FP indicators, and has expertise in developing FP-focused qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and protocols. Throughout his career, Mr. Congo has evaluated several reproductive health programs promoting the rights of women and children, including access to and use of contraceptive methods. Mr. Congo holds a master’s degree in demography and a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He is a citizen of Burkina Faso and is fluent in English, French and local languages.
