About
I am an Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) management expert, with 24 years of work experience implementing ENR projects. I currently work at USIAD/Uganda as a Project Management Specialist (Environment, Natural Resources & Climate Change). In my current position, I provide technical expertise to the design and management of ENR and climate change activities. I technically support other USAID sectors (health, water, agriculture, energy, governance and education) to integrate climate change in design and implementation of their projects and activities. I also manage relationships with other USG colleagues and Government of Uganda, and represent USAID in the ENRCC development partners’ group. Between 2015 and today, I have won various awards for exemplary leadership in biodiversity conservation and ENR.
Prior to joining USAID, I worked for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a Program Officer in charge of the water and wetlands portfolio. At IUCN, I am prized for having piloted wetlands and water catchment management models that have since influenced programs and policy in Uganda. Most especially, I am remembered for having co-innovated the community environment conservation funding approach – a model that has since been adopted in Kenya, Malawi and Rwanda. After IUCN, I also briefly served as a Technical Adviser for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at GIZ – The German Technical Cooperation Agency.
Between 2000 and 2009, I worked at Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment, where I am remembered for establishing the first Regional Wetlands Technical Support Unit, an institutional model that has since been adopted and rolled out by government across the country. I am also prized for having initiated wetland restoration initiatives that have since been scaled up by government and other partners. Before that, I successfully established, headed and operationalized the District Environment Department in Soroti as the first District Environment Officer.
I hold a Masters degree in Land Use and Regional Development Planning, majoring in wetlands resource assessment and planning. I also completed various USAID training programs, including Programming Foreign Assistance (PFA), Project Design and Management (PDM), WEB Global leadership training, Seven habits of highly effective people, and Global Climate Change (GCC). I undertook two valuable trainings with the US Forestry Services, namely watershed management, and climate change and natural resources management.
