About
I have professional work experience of 9 years at both national and international levels with International NGOs in humanitarian emergency, recovery/resilience, development project activities; continuing delivery of high-quality programming in line with current global trends and standards; and facilitating excellence in the execution of implementation approaches in a way that links risk-informed programming and resilience to organisation strategic objectives to better link humanitarian aid and development to protect and promote health and well- being of the most vulnerable populations. In order to achieve this objective, I have executed assignments in programme management and policy focusing on collaborative and multi-disciplinary approaches for reaching set goals; partnerships to promote policies that expand access to services that protect all children, empower girls/women and other vulnerable groups to fully participate in political, social, and economic systems to contribute to sustainable development; utilising tools for analysis of equity, risk analysis and management to inform policy and planning for delivering gender/equity sensitive programming.
Since 2017, with INGOs in Uganda and DR Congo, my management/coordination roles involved supporting holistic multi-sectoral approaches to strengthen community resilience focusing on disaster reduction through extensive analysis of risks pre-disposing communities to future shocks; designing programmes to enhance absorptive capacity to mitigate risks of and recover from shocks, such as through developing rural roads/bridges connecting to remote markets/health centres, access to safe water supply systems, food/cash for work activities to help households avoid resorting to negative coping strategies as well as comprehensive community based early warning systems that use thresholds for certain indicators to trigger an emergency response. I have experience in programme management and policy, focusing on setting up and monitoring of policies and systems for new projects and programmes, reviewing policies and systems for on-going projects and programmes, carrying out programmatic/financial risk assessment, providing capacity building to staff and partner implementing organisations, increasing funding portfolio through proposal development, networking, fundraising and managing donor relations as well as project reporting.
Previously, I worked in refugee settlements in Uganda as well as a valuable internship experience during my studies in the United Kingdom. My experience was enriched by working with the most disadvantaged communities through community involvement; advocating and influencing for just and fair policies at all levels. In partnership with various stakeholders including governments, UN, bilateral/multilateral donor agencies, private sector, civil societies, and education/religious institutions to empower communities to end poverty. This consolidated my understanding of contemporary development challenges and thus it inculcated in me problem solving and analytical abilities; enhanced my application of practical and sustainable solutions to development challenges, and tackling issues surrounding ethics, strategies, leadership, management and accountability in development projects.
My leadership style incorporates providing vision and direction to teams to achieve results through clear communication of roles, expectations, standards and results whilst demonstrating cultural sensitivity, promoting mutual respect in working and communicating with all personnel. Besides, to maintain team effectiveness and morale when dealing with changing priorities and ambiguous humanitarian situations, I keep them abreast of decisions, explain the rationale behind decisions and as appropriate I ensure that they contribute to constructive discussions. I am an effective communicator and my excellent spoken English and proficient spoken French has been demonstrated in a wide range of environments; from delivering presentations, and training sessions to chairing coordination meetings. I am also well-skilled in the use of data collection and analysis software that include Microsoft Excel, SPSS, STATA, and ODK.
I am a holder of Masters’ degree in Public Health from the University of Liverpool-United Kingdom. I am trained in Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance by The Hague Academy of Local Governance-Netherlands as well as in Humanitarian System in Emergencies Preparedness and Response by UNICEF and Mastering the Protection Mainstreaming Key Outcome Indicator by ECHO among others .
