Qualifications and skills: I am a qualified environmental expert with vast experience in conducting Environmental and, Social Impact Assessment, Environmental Audits of existing projects (completed/ongoing) Environmental Due Diligence, Monitoring and Evaluation, Environmental Capacity Building, Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health and Safety Audits. Due to the undertaking of assignments in the aforementioned areas, I have gained vast experience in environmental and social baseline data collection, public and stakeholders consultation, project life cycle evaluation, cost benefit analysis, socio-economic survey, data analysis and report writing (Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Audit, Environmental Profiles and Plans, Resettlement Action Plan, Due Diligence, OHS Audits and Socio-Economic Reports).

I have also undertaken part in several projects related to impact management, monitoring and mitigation for several projects and this includes multi-purpose dam development project, solid waste management projects, resource utilisation, climate change programmes and plans, energy conservation, forestry (development, management and conservation) and land use management.

I have also calculated levels of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions equivalents for several water and sanitation projects in the country and proposed Cleaner Development Mechanism (CDM) mitigation measures.

I am equally conversant with world bank safe guard policies which are the mechanism for addressing environmental and social issues in project design, implementation and operation as they provide a framework for consultation with communities and for public disclosure purposes. "

General Professional Experience

I have worked in the department of the environmental and socio-economic section of Otieno Odongo & Partners Consulting Engineers and Africon Universal Consulting for the last 5 and 4 yearsMy duties involved conducting Environment and Social Impact Assessment (E&SIA) and evaluation for various projects which entails data collection, mitigation evaluation and report writing. The infrastructural development projects for which the department has conducted environmental evaluation include: dams, water supply and sanitation projects, roads, solid waste management, storm water management and electricity transmission lines. The specific assignments undertaken in the various projects involved impacts evaluation on the bio-physical, socio-cultural and socio-economic environment and development of mitigation measures on climate change, energy conservation, environmental restoration, management and, conservation and social aspects of the projects. The dam or water retention facilities I have undertaken studies for include the Chemususu Dam, Ahero Irrigation Scheme in Nyando, Lukuga Dam in Democratic Republic of Congo, Migori Water Supply, Nzoia Multi-purpose dam and Expansion of Western Kenya electricity generation programme.

I have also worked with a non governamental organisation (Pamoja Trust) in Kisumu. During my stint with the organisation I engaged the local communities in environmental planning that later helped in designing the Kisumu master plan (ISUD plan)

Currently I am also engaging communities living around the lake Victoria basin on environmental sound and sustainable activities within the region as a chairperson of

Chairperson of the Youths For Healthy Lake Victoria organisation.

Specific professional experience: My specific experience is in conducting Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audits for community development projects in the infrastructural sector. The specific components I have undertaken in conducting the environmental assessment includes:

Desktop studies which entail reference to existing scientific literature material, development plans, policies, legal and regulatory framework;

Development of data collection tools namely checklists, questionnaires, impact analysis and matrix etc;

Collection of baseline data on the bio-physical, environmental chemical composition, socio-cultural and socio-economic environment;

Propose mechanisms and sustainable solutions to help reduce climate change.

Conducting socio-economic due diligence which involves description of the social, economic and cultural status of the project area, organizing of forums for public participation to enable interested & affected parties present their concerns and opinions regarding the projects;

Identify potential social aspects and effects of the project to the neighbouring populace and the land use;

Study the project life cycle, inputs and by products and evaluate the cost benefits scenarios;

Outline the potential project impacts

Provide recommendations mitigation measures on sound environmental management with due consideration on environmental rehabilitation, management and conservation in regards to the ecosystem, pollution, solid waste and liquid waste management

Annalise and describe all occupational, health and safety hazards related to the project and device mitigation measures

Recommend Continuous Monitoring Parameters and develop and cost management plan

Report writing
