About
I graduated with M.Sc. in Food Security and Development Studies from Addis Ababa University with my PhD pursuing at the moment from the same University, Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Ashland University and BA in Economics. I also have Diploma in Agriculture which makes my education and career profile very diverse which is a great added value to porgramme management. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Food Security and Development at Addis Ababa University.
I am currently working for GOAL Global in Ethiopia as Programmes Director. I am responsible for the overall management of the Ethiopia programme which is the second largest operation for GOAL globally in terms of grant portfolio and the first looking at its diversity of several donors, complexity, sectoral composition, and geographical coverage. I manage an annual budget portfolio of about 32 million Euros with this capacity for programmes in Health, Nutrition, WASH, Shelter and Settlement, Food Security and Livelihoods, Protection and Safeguarding. I also manage MEAL, Grants, Refugee and Development Programmes of GOAL in addition to the humanitarian and recovery projects.
Before my current assignment, I had worked for Solidarites International in BANGLADESH as FSL/DRR Coordinator and responsible for the overall management and technical aspect of the Food Security, Livelihoods and Disaster Risk Reduction Sectors. In my recent experience, I had worked as Area Manager for Norwegian Refugee Council with previously worked as Programme Manager for the same organization managing and coordinating the Addis Ababa/ETHIOPIA Area Urban Programmes and a Consortium programme for the Country office. The programmes are designed to support Urban refugees in Ethiopia of different nationalities and their host community members. These multi-sectorial programmes aim to create sustainable livelihoods options, access to basic services, access to justice and durable solutions for refugees to be self-reliant.
I had worked in LIBERIA for Concern Worldwide, as a Multi Sectorial Program Manager on international assignment for around one year and four months period. I had managed the multi-sectorial development and emergency programmes of food security, livelihoods and market programmes, and WASH programmes. I had also managed the Post Ebola EPR (Epidemic Preparedness and Response) programme while supported the Ebola emergency programmes in Liberia for the organization.
And, recently, after my return from Liberia, I re-joined Concern worldwide in Ethiopia and had managed the biggest emergency drought response program as Emergency Programme Manager. More than 76,500 households (382,000 people) were supported to establish their agricultural livelihoods through the El-Nino drought response programme. There were six EL-NINO drought response projects under my supervision and of which two of them were consortium projects with CARE and GOAL.
I had also managed and coordinated an EU funded Resilience Building in Ethiopia Programme (RESET I) which is a consortium programme which aimed to build resilience of targeted poor households through multi sectorial and integrated programme approach, as Consortium Coordinator. I had provided support to consortium partners and had been actively representing the organization in different coordination mechanisms. Concern Worldwide was the lead agency and I was managing the consortium program that was implemented by Concern, IMC and PIN.
I have more than 11 years of extensive experience in the multi sectorial programs, long term development, recovery, emergency interventions scaling from small scale to large scale emergencies, food security, nutrition responses, responses in management capacities at different level and varying contexts in Ethiopia and Liberia. Moreover, very committed and understood the different coordination mechanisms in the government and humanitarian sphere. More importantly, my strong profile in managing different standalone and consortium program makes me a value added to your organization if you choose me for the position.
I had worked as Consortium Coordinator, Nutrition and Recovery Project Manager, Integrated Development Programme Manager, Nutrition Project Manager, M&E Senior Project Officer, Assistant Instructor in Agricultural College and as Agronomist in the areas of food security and development. My profound experience in migration programming, environment, gender, accountability, HIV and AIDS, children and disability mainstreaming among others have contributed a lot in my successful implementation of multi sectorial integrated, recovery/resilience and emergency programs to the highest quality standard. Furthermore, I have practical knowledge on value chain developments, market oriented programing, Project Cycle Management, Proposal development, and financial management. I am familiar with international standards and have worked with different donors like EU, ECHO, USAID/OFDA, UN-OCHA, CIDA, Irish AID, Goal, DFID, DEC, SIDA, BPRM, Dutch and Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs among others.
I trust that my strong managerial and technical expertise with my strong experience in managing varied nature of programmes in different contexts will make me your first choice for the post. My resume is attached and looking forward to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Jemal Hassen
