Bernardin Gatete is an experienced Contracts, Grants and Partnerships Manager with more than 15 years in both profit and not-for- profit sectors. Gatete has experience in managing large and complex contracts, grants and partnerships with multiple/multi-varied partners including donors (USAID at regional/bilateral levels, Dutch DGIS and EKNs in Benin-Niger-Mali-Burundi-South Sudan, African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Swedish SIDA-Mozambique, etc.), governments of host countries and regional bodies, private sector, farmer-based organization and civil society organizations. Gatete is currently the Contracts/Grants Manager for International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) North and West Africa Region portfolios and provides support to IFDC’s 108 million Euros continental program 2SCALE, IFA-AFO and other projects in East Africa (PSSD/PAGRIS-Burundi).  Gatete’s work includes contracts, grants and partnership management, co-designing, managing, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating donor-funded projects/programs as well as negotiating with development partners, government agencies and regional bodies to foster implementation synergies.

Until April 2022, Gatete was the Lead Technical Specialist, Grants/Contacts and Partnerships for IFDC North and West Africa (NWAF), East and Southern Africa (ESAF) and Asia. He plays active role in Business Development Units of IFDC NWAF, ESAF and Asia. Prior to joining IFDC Field Programs Management, Gatete worked as the Grants Manager for IFDC’s DGIS-funded Toward Sustainable Clusters in Agribusiness through Learning in Entrepreneurship (2SCALE Phase 1) in West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Togo) and provided backstopping to IFDC ESAF (Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, South Sudan, Uganda) for the same project. Gatete worked with other organizations including Abt Associates Inc., Family Health International (FHI360) on a number of USAID West Africa-funded projects such as Agribusiness  and  Trade  Promotion  and  Expanded Agribusiness and Trade Promotion (ATP/E-ATP) projects and Action For West Africa Region project (AWARE-HIV/AIDS) where he managed the projects’ grants, contracts and subagreements to implementing partners, tracking partners’ deliverables and liaising with partners on issues related to  projects’ performance and donor compliance. Gatete holds a MBA in Project Management, Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Majoring Management/Psychology) and a number of professional certificates. He understands, writes correctly and speaks fluently English, French and Swahili.
