I was awarded the Master of Science in Data Science [Distinction] from the University of Salford, UK in December 2020. The program equipped me with both theoretical and practical life projects in the subject of data mining, principles of data science, big data tools, and advanced data bases. Motivated to learn more in text mining, I wrote the master project dissertation at analysing text mining for Airbnb Manchester reviews. During the project, I had the opportunity to learn in depth about the exploratory data analysis extracted preliminary information about the datasets like token tags, nounadjective pairs, frequency list of part of speech tags, percentage of tokens for adjectives, nouns and propn, dependency parsing, most common terms, and correlation among the terms. The named entity recognition is also used to locate and classify the “location” and “organisation” entity mentions in the reviews to see and visualise what sort of information, patterns and sequences is attached in relation to them.

The modelling part of the project mainly consists of sentiment analysis, topic modelling and text clustering, where each of them were analysed using different programming platforms (i.e., RStudio, Python and SAS Enterprise Miner respectively). A lexicon-based sentiment analysis was run on the review data sets for polarity classification using the simplest and arguable the best semantic dictionary; bang dictionary and obtained an overall of 95% of positive reviews. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is performed to generate 5 random topics to the text data and assign each topic with the top fifteen words.

Currently I am working as a Data Manager for a non-profit organization called Committee on the Shelter less [COTS] based in Petaluma, California and my role involves data collection and management, data analysis and quality assurance, Reports and collaboration.
