I am a seasoned Public Health Expert and Social and Behavioral Scientist with over 19 years of experience. Throughout my career, I have held various technical leadership positions within the South African Government, United States Government, Research and Academic Institutions, Developmental Partners, as well as Local and International NGOs. I am currently serving as the Director of HIV/AIDS Treatment, Care, and Support at the HIV/AIDS & STI Cluster, National Department of Health, South Africa. This role follows my recent position as the Differentiated Service Delivery Advisor for ICAP at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, where I was seconded to the National Department of Health - HIV/AIDS Care & Support, TB & STIs cluster. In my previous and current roles, I have been responsible for leading the Policy Development function within the Ministry of Health HIV/AIDS & STI Cluster. I also head the Treatment, Care, and Support Directorate, overseeing the implementation of differentiated ART services delivery through policy review and development based on scientific evidence. My responsibilities encompass capacity building, technical assistance, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, and support for various research-related projects. Additionally, I play a crucial role in facilitating and monitoring the realignment and implementation of treatment, care, and support guidelines across all health facilities.I hold a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) - Health Systems Management and Policy through the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, a Master’s degree in Public Health (Health Policy & Management) as well as a degree in Nursing through the University of Venda respectively. My Doctorate investigated “The efficacy of a social cognitive theory-based intervention, in reducing alcohol-related HIV-risk behaviour among young adults in Mamelodi, Pretoria: A Randomised Controlled Trial”. I also served as the Senior Part Time Lecturer at the University of Limpopo since 2017 to 2020, Designing, moderating, and lecturing MPH students on Health Policy and Management Module and Senior Part-Time Lecturer at the University of Pretoria. June 2017 – 2018, Designing, moderating, and lecturing MPH students on Health Promotion Module. The 19 year’s public health experience has been central to HIV/AIDS-related programs, especially prevention, care, treatment, and support. I have successfully coordinated implementation of the optimal combination of interventions aimed at addressing HIV prevention in South Africa; Coordinated South Africa Global AIDS Response Progress Reporting (GARPR) 2014 and Health Sector Reporting which is the highest level of reporting in the country. Demonstrated experience in providing technical support and coordinated prime recipients and sub-recipients of The Global Fund through the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC). Participated on Country Co-ordinating Mechanism (CCM) and coordinated the implementation of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for HIV, TB and STI at SANAC. I have track record on providing direct management for Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), Grants, Cooperative Agreements and Contracts Management at funder side with PEPFAR (CDC, USAID) funding mechanism and at implementer side with recipients (both prime and sub-recipients). Also demonstrated experience in working with other donors such as Gates Foundation and European Union. My domain experience includes program design, technical leadership, strategic thinking, and planning, analytics, critical reading, thinking & writing, monitoring and program evaluation, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, Treatment and Support, health policy review, policy briefs, and policy development. I further have functional experience notably, on the application of various statistics software such as STATA, SPSS, Epi Info, Tier.net, and DHIS, organizational development, public-private partnerships, scientific application ( qualitative and quantitative research), communication ( both spoken and written) as well as the application of Microsoft office (word, excel, PowerPoint, access, publisher, Outlook and OneNote). My main drive for public health is steered through my insightful Involvement, Innovations, Integration, Improvement, and Impact along with cross-disciplinary programs, and cross-sectoral and policy-oriented research. Hence, I am passionate about poverty-related, HIV/AIDS (Prevention, Care, Treatment, and Support), human, social, structural, diseases, and other related health problems for both vulnerable and priority populations ranging from a paediatric, adolescent, girls, and young women. I continue to ignite public health innovations and embrace development through the myriad of experiences, skills, knowledge, and attributes I have gain in public health, policy work, and strategic leadership I have given all these years.
