About
I am a Civil Engineer with a successful international career in engineering and management, spanning over 25 years. As a Water Engineer, I have undertaken hydrological and hydraulic analysis of water systems ranging from major rivers, to streams and urban drainage systems.
I am currently a Consultant and CEO of Galaxy Engineering and Management Consulting, after serving as the Managing Director for the Management Consulting Business Unit of the ACT Afrique Group for nearly two years. Before joining ACT Afrique, I served as Managing Director and board member of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) of The Gambia, where I led the reform agenda supported by the World Bank and other International Organizations, to transform NAWEC into a sustainable state-owned enterprise. As Managing Director of NAWEC I oversaw the development, planning and implementation of major water development and sanitation projects funded by international development partners.
Before joining NAWEC, I held leadership positions in various international consultancy firms and public institutions in Germany, UK, Hong Kong, and Africa during my career. I led departments and multi- disciplinary teams in UK and Germany and rose to the level of Associate Director with AECOM, where I served as Head of Water Engineering for 18 months in Hong Kong, and was responsible for all water infrastructure projects, including water supply, drainage and sewerage projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Macau.
I left AECOM as Associate Director to join the African Development Bank (AfDB) as a Water Sector Knowledge Management Consultant for the Water Development and Sanitation Department of the Bank. While undertaking this consultancy assignment, I was based at the Bank’s office in Abidjan, which enabled me to appreciate the successes and cross-cutting challenges of water in projects in Africa, funded by different sectors at the Bank.
Throughout my career, I have supported businesses and institutions in both the public and private sector in Africa, Asia, and Europe to develop policies, strategies, masterplans, action plans and deliver projects from conception to post completion monitoring and maintenance. My experience cuts across a broad range of disciplines and sectors, including infrastructure, water and sanitation, energy, environment, and climate change adaptation. I have successfully managed complex, multidisciplinary projects from conception to completion.
I have also conducted research and training on project management and water management, including climate change impacts, adaption and mitigation, for government institutions in Africa and Europe, including the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs in UK, the Ministry of Water Resources and National Assembly Matters in The Gambia, and Hong Kong Drainage Service Department.
I studied Hydropower and water Engineering in China and obtained a Diplom-Ingenieur (MSc equivalent) Degree in Civil Engineering (specializing in Water Engineering) from Karlsruhe Technical University in Germany. I am a member of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) and can communicate in English, German, French, Chinese (Mandarin), and Wolof.
