• Masters Degree in Development Economics and BA (Hons) in Urban and Regional Planning; • Over 36 years experience in climate change, DRM and urban/regional planning, of which 30 years have been spent on both short and long term assignments in Asia and Pacific (Fiji, Myanmar, Tonga, Samoa, Laos, India, Cambodia, Philippines, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei), all in multi-national and multi-cultural projects; • Over 9 years as a project Team Leader in Fiji, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia with over 23 years as the representative urban and/or regional planner on a multi-disciplinary team. • Programme Manager(s) for UN-Habitat (2005-06) and AusAID (2006-08) working on Disaster Response projects in Aceh (also post-conflict) and Central Java, focusing on community based approaches which required continual monitoring and evaluation of programme outputs. Team Leader in the Philippines (1993-94) on the EU’s Disaster Rehabilitation Programme following the 1990 Luzon earthquake. • Experience as Shelter Recovery Advisor in Laos (2009) following Typhoon Ketsana. Responsible for: delivery of the CERF Shelter Component grant for emergency shelter in conjunction with identified local partners; chairing the Shelter Cluster; and preparing proposals for future Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives within the identified areas, including village re-planning and resettlement of some communities within/outside the area. • Extensive experience in formulating Integrated Urban Development Programmes in both Indonesia and Pakistan. • Specific inputs into 7 projects in Cambodia, Pakistan, Philippines and Indonesia to identify and develop potential infrastructural and natural resource projects which would support the preferred planning strategy. • Wide experience in projects involving participation with the public (Malaysia, Philippines, UK) and agencies/groups (Cambodia, Indonesia) to promote networking opportunities and improve planning outputs. • Project experience with a wide range of agencies including the ADB, UN, EU, Danida, DANCED, AusAID and World Bank. • Experience in developing land delivery methodologies including Land Consolidation and Guided Land Development in planned locations, especially for low-cost housing and as part of Village Improvement Programmes. • Wide experience in use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques in capacity building projects.
