About

Demelash Wondimagegnehu Goshime, with a Ph.D. in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering and an M.Sc. in Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering, is an Associate Professor and researcher at Arba Minch University Water Technology Institute (AWTI). His research focuses on water resources modelling, climate change, water allocation, land use and land cover (LULC), sediment dynamics, and the use of satellite remote sensing for hydrological applications. Demelash has led several activities in capacity development, community-based research, training, and consultancy in water resources. His work includes teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, leading a regional training course on multi-functional reservoir operations in transboundary river basins, and participated in the SAWEL program aimed at improving food security and nutrition in the Sahel through sustainable agricultural water management. He developed training materials, provided coaching, and offered training on decision support systems using the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model. Demelash has been involved in the Participatory Small-scale Irrigation Development Programme (PSADIP), delivering training on WEAP, CROPWAT, and Environmental Flow (EF). He has served as a senior hydrologist on the feasibility design of the Chalko and Segen dam and irrigation projects. In addition to supervising several graduate students, Demelash has held administrative positions as Director of Academic Affairs at AWTI and Postgraduate Coordinator at the Arba Minch Institute of Technology. He has published over 13 articles in internationally recognized scientific journals and has attended numerous Integrated Decision Support Systems (IDSS) trainings for integrated water resources planning and management.
