About

I am a post-graduate journalist, political and conflict analyst, with almost 19 years of experience in both domestic and international affairs, covering geopolitics, conflicts, organized crime investigations, and Human Rights violations. I am currently based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I work as Latin America correspondent for the Italian News Agency “Nova”, and as a contributor for Italian and Brazilian newspapers.

During my career, I had the chance to put my ability to the test in several different situations, both in the domestic environment, as a Law&Crime covering Italian mafia issues for nearly 10 years, and in the international scenario, reporting from conflict, and post-conflict in different areas of the world from 2012. Particularly, I went to Afghanistan during the ISAF mission, in order to investigate on the ground the meaning of the military action in post-conflict and peacebuilding phase. In Afghanistan, I also reported the women's conditions in the female detention center in Herat. In the Balkans: Kosovo, Serbia, and Bosnia Herzegovina, I produced reportages focusing on the post-conflict issues, the ethnic division, and the consequences of ethnic cleansing and genocide. I also wrote about the ISIS penetration in Kosovo community. Moreover, I worked several times in the Middle East during the Syrian civil war, both focusing on political aspects, terrorism, and the refugee crisis.

In Brazil, which represents the most relevant part of my work. I devoted myself to reporting specifically about Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, investigating the social racist-based conflicts, and particularly the police abuses. From 2011 to today I published articles, analysis, reportages, photo-reportage, and video-documentaries for the major Italian magazines and newspapers. On these topics, I am the author of a book titled: "Crime and favelas", published in May 2016 by Eiffel Edizioni.

As both my academic and professional experience highlight I am extremely effective at self-management having frequently organized trips, field research, interviews, as well as the work of interlocution with public authorities, social, popular, and non-governmental movements. All of these were often done on short notice and tight deadlines. I improve in this way my ability to work responsibly under pressure and to adapt quickly to change, as well as dangerous, circumstances. I also had the opportunity to experience in-pool work, always dealing brilliantly in organizations and coordination of groups of workers.

I have always worked hard to denounce the situation in several areas of the world, through my reports. Throughout the entire range of my work, I have emphasized a bottom-up, victim-oriented view. In these very different cultural, economic, religious contexts I developed my cultural sensitivity and respect, reducing any kind of conflict risk and equity and tolerant attitude.

Since documenting conflicts, Human Rights violations, and analyzing the post-conflict environment, was what led my professional activity as a journalist in 2017 I decided to enter the master of science program, in "International Crimes, Conflicts and Criminology" at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to improve my academic and research skills. Above all choosing writing, my dissertation about "Sexual Violence in Transitional Justice: the case of Colombian Peace Agreement", achieved the personal goal to gain an in-depth knowledge of transitional justice mechanisms, peacebuilding, victims reparation, and reconciliations.

Nowadays, I’m looking forward to seeing myself not anymore (only) as a journalist but working for an international institution, engaged in the defense and prevention and reporting international crime, and for transitional justice and peacebuilding.

Experienced, specifically educated in Humanitarian Law, and trained in order to work in the best condition as a Journalist in war and conflict areas, I’m available and open for assignments in each field of my expertise.
