Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Mikael Gartner, a licensed civil/structural engineer specializing in earthquake engineering. I hold a unique and varied background combining 1) Civil/Structural Engineering, 2) Project-Contract Management FIDIC 3) Government Advisory, 4) Disaster Response, 5) Disaster Recovery, 6) Infrastructure Design Reviews, 7) Gender and Social Inclusion in Infrastructure

I currently hold a Bachelors and Masters degree in structural engineering and am a licensed Professional Engineer in California. I am also a certificated Fire Academy Instructor and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Subject Matter Expert. My 20+ years of structural design experience and National/International emergency disaster response experience entails a wide variety of achievements which are recognized by awards in structural engineering and Urban Search and Rescue. As a consulting engineer I have been responsible for the design and construction of numerous large commercial buildings, investigations, repair programs, shoring designs, and other engineering efforts. As a USAR engineer I have been responsible for the safety of USAR team members and contributed to the extraction of deeply entombed victims.

 My USAR emergency response experience with FEMA, UN INSARAG, and NZ Fire Service to disasters such as the 2007 Hurricanes Gustav/Ike, the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake, the and 2011 Japanese Tsunamis proves my ability to work under pressure and in culturally diverse environments under adverse and difficult conditions. Additionally, my deployment experience to the 2014 West Africa Ebola Response, Guinea, Chad, Uzbekistan, and Costa Rica proves my ability to work with translators in diverse environments and contexts.

Based on my professional experience, construction management experience, project management capabilities, government advisory experience, disaster response, FIDIC contract management experience, language skills, and ability to coordinate several stakeholders, I believe I am a strong candidate for any position.
